THE BASICS

What is a made-to-measure picture frame?

A made-to-measure picture frame is built to the exact dimensions of your picture or poster – not rounded to the nearest standard format. That is the difference between forcing a picture into the wrong frame size, with cropping, gaps or a mat that doesn't line up, and getting a frame that matches the picture to the millimetre.

We make frames from 10×10 cm up to 100×80 cm. That works for:

  • Your own photos from a phone or system camera, whatever the aspect ratio
  • Posters and prints in unusual formats
  • Art prints and lithographs
  • Shirts, pennants and textile prints to be mounted
  • Watercolours, drawings and other handmade originals

THE PROCESS

How it works – three steps

From photo to finished frame

01

Choose frame and picture in the 3D tool

Browse our frames – wood veneer in white, black, oak, walnut and historical models. Upload your photo (JPG, PNG or HEIC from iPhone) to see exactly how it looks in the frame you picked, or start without a picture and try the proportions first.

02

Adjust size, mat and glass

Enter the exact dimensions of your picture in centimetres – one decimal place is enough to hit the millimetre. Add a mat (single or double) and choose a colour – white, off-white, black or versions with a contrasting core. Decide between standard glass or UV-protective art glass for long-term protection against fading.

03

We manufacture and deliver

The frame is cut, assembled and packed by hand in Sweden. You get it delivered to your door within 8–10 business days, fully assembled and ready to hang. Wire hangers, an acid-free silk board backing and corner protectors are included.

MATERIALS

The materials we use

Four choices that determine how long the frame and the picture last

Veneer and core

Our frames are made from FSC®-certified veneer on a solid core. Veneer gives a more even surface than solid timber and holds its shape better over time – which matters for frames in larger formats. The core is kiln-dried and knot-free so it will not warp.

FSC®-certified

Mat (passepartout)

We use acid-free paper in the mat. Acid-free is museum standard – it stops the mat from yellowing and the picture from discolouring over decades. You can choose a single mat (one border around the picture) or a double one (two layers with contrast between them).

Acid-free, museum standard

Glass

Standard glass (2 mm) – clear float glass, included in the base price. Suitable for most pictures and for rooms without direct sunlight.

UV-protective art glass (UV70) – blocks 70% of UV radiation, which markedly extends the life of photo paper, watercolours and prints. It also gives over 90% fewer reflections than standard glass, so the picture stays visible even in rooms with windows or lamps opposite. Recommended for originals and for pictures in bright rooms.

Two options

Backing and hanging

The backing is acid-free silk board, which sits against the picture without discolouring it over time. Wire hangers and corner protectors are included with every frame, so you can hang it straight away without buying anything extra.

FORMATS

Size – what works and what doesn't

We make made-to-measure frames from 10×10 cm up to 100×80 cm. How large you can go depends on the frame – slim profiles have a lower limit, and the tool shows what is possible for the frame you have chosen. That means we cover:

  • Common photo and art sizes: A4 (21×29.7), A3 (29.7×42), A2 (42×59.4), 30×40, 50×70, 70×100 cm
  • Polaroid and small formats: 13×18, 15×21, 18×24 cm
  • Long, narrow panoramas: 20×80, 30×100 cm
  • Square formats: 30×30, 50×50, 70×70 cm
  • Custom sizes: enter the measurements in centimetres to one decimal place directly in the tool, e.g. 32.4 × 47.1

Need a common size quickly? Our standard frames come in ready-made sizes from 79 kr and are delivered within 4–8 business days – choose Standard among the frames in the tool.

For formats larger than 100×80 cm – get in touch and we will help you solve it outside the standard flow.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

What does a made-to-measure picture frame cost at Frejma?

The price depends on size, frame style, mat and glass. Made-to-measure frames start at 554 kr, and standard frames in ready-made sizes from 79 kr. You see exactly what your particular configuration costs, in real time in the tool, before you order. Shipping is extra: 149 kr to a pick-up point or 199 kr to your door.

How long does delivery take?

8–10 business days from order to delivery. If you have chosen to send in your own print for framing, the time is counted from when we receive the picture. The full terms are in our shipping policy.

Can I try how it looks before I buy?

Yes – the tool is free to use. Upload your photo, try different frame styles and sizes, share the link with someone for a second opinion. You only order once you are sure.

Will the finished frame look exactly like the 3D view?

The 3D view is a preview that helps you choose the right frame, size and mat. It gives a realistic picture of proportions and colour tones, but because every frame is made by hand and natural materials vary, small differences in fine detail, light and shade can occur between the visualisation and the finished frame.

Which file formats can I upload?

JPG, PNG and HEIC (from iPhone). We recommend at least 150 DPI at the chosen frame size – the tool warns you if the resolution is too low and suggests a smaller size.

Can I cancel a made-to-measure frame?

A frame built to your measurements is a custom-made item, which affects the right of withdrawal. What applies – and what we do if there is something wrong with the frame – is set out in our refund and right of withdrawal policy.
